Big Ideas in Social Psych

2. Social Influence

Social influence refers to the way in which individuals change their behavior to meet the demands of a social environment. Typically social influence results from a specific action, command, or request, but people also alter their attitudes and behaviors in response to what they perceive others might do or think.

Social influence shape our Behavior

In conformity

In Culture

For example our standards regarding time management Philippine time and Japan Time. If you arrived to work for just one minute late, its normal that you would receive a warning letter from your boss for tardiness, but if you do this in other country like Japan (knowing the people there are strict in time) you need to be at the working place 5 minutes early to avoid getting late.

Personality dispositions also affect behavior

Personal disposition determine an individual’s behavior across a variety of situations and that are peculiar to and uniquely expressed by that individual. When you win In a game you might feel grateful that your hard works have been paid off, but others might perceive it differently they might think that winning is not enough to achieve their goals and strives even harder to achieve their goal.
